resident Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over the meeting of the police council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Those in the meeting included Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, Kayode Fayemi and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
The acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, was also sighted at the meeting venue but not part of the deliberations.
It was reliably learnt that the meeting might confirm the appointment of the acting police chief today.
President Buhari had on April 6 appointed Mr Baba as acting the inspector general.
Mr Baba was a deputy inspector-general of police before his promotion.
Others present at the meeting are the Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari, Ministers of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, interior minister Rauf Aregbesola, FCT minister Muhammed Bello and the Police Service Commission chairman, Musiliu Smith.
Last April, Mr Buhari said he chose Mr Baba over Moses Jitoboh as the acting police chief because he has been a policeman for a long time and “has the necessary experience.
Mr Baba’s appointment, to be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation, will effectively deny Mr Jitoboh, the police chief from Bayelsa who should have been the inspector general in line with the law.
In December, Peoples Gazette uncovered Mr Buhari’s hidden plot to deprive Mr Jitoboh of the role in violation of the Nigerian law.
